grew up in a strict single-parent home with a Christian mother. My grandparents lived next
door and I grew up watching the Detroit Pistons Bad Boys with my papa who was very stern.
My grandmother spoiled us. She was an entrepreneur and was very fashionable.
We loved to eat Soul Food, Chinese, Mexican, American and Italian.
She would probably want me to wear more makeup and red lipstick lol.
She also taught us the importance of being together as a family.

Due to my upbringing I am usually practical and straightforward,
which may be perceived as being tough. I also have strong Christian values,
eat lots of comfort foods,
a close-knit family, am a serial entrepreneur,
spoil my fur babies, and watch a lot of basketball.

I was born and raised here in Odessa and I have two siblings, a brother 10 years older and a sister a year younger. growing up me and my sister were always mistaken as twins and loved to get into trouble, we were constantly playing in mud or something that could hurt us, but our favorite activity was when our dad would come home from work and we’d go to the track and drag race.
Because of the way I was raised, I’m a very outgoing and adventurous person, I still love a good drag race or any competition and I have very high standards for how I should be treated.

I am 14 year old that likes school for its people and the work ethic. I have 1 older sibling ,one year apart, and my mom and dad. Most of the time me and my sister always together no matter what and that mostly the reason I came to OCA. Also my family is really close and can basically tell each other anything. With my family they are pretty strict and are Christian, but most of the time the are proud of me doing my best for everything I’m doing. I’m in high school and honestly it’s a lot then I expected. I can learn how to cope with it and the people at my school are very respectful and are the smartest people I know.

I am a 15 year old Hispanic male. I come from a family of 3 other siblings, me being the third born. Me and my family are Christians and go to church every Sunday. Currently my mom is chill about everything while my dad is kinda strict about things. I was born here in Odessa and we moved once to El Paso and then came back. My brothers were a little rough towards me but now they aren’t. We were raised to eat what’s on your plate or don’t eat at all.

Haley Andrade · November 8, 2023 at 8:49 am

I lived in El, paso for half of my life. I moved to odessa at almost 7 years old. Living in El, Paso I was always hanging with family, and since my parents were teen parents we lived with some family members for a while. I learned that family is important when going through struggles. When I was younger my parents did the best they could to give me and my brother the best life possible in El, Paso. We eat alot of fruits, peanut butter on a tortilla, and tostadas with cheese. Once my sister was born we moved to odessa, and all we have is each other, no other family. We usually go out to eat Chinese food, or we’ll have a Carne asada at home.

I am a 14 year old boy who grew up in many different places. I live with both parents and one sibling, my sister. We are a catholic family. The rest of our family lived very far away from us, they live in the Philippines while we live here in the U.S. My parents are very strict about mine and my sisters grades, they would make us study everyday. We would eat Filipino food everyday like sinigang, nilaga, adobo, and they all taste delicious. They always want me to join clubs in school and study but I never really doing those things, I always loved playing sports or playing outside.

I am calm and energetic person and don’t get mad that easily. I play a lot of sports with my friends, I play many video games, and I eat A LOOOOT.

I’m 14 years old, I have 2 siblings. I’m Mexican-American. Me and my siblings are always getting in trouble. I grew up in Odessa, Tx. My family migrated from Mexico to the US in the 1950’s. My family is very strict and has very high expectations of me. That encourages me to set high goals for myself and always push myself to become something great.
I grew up playing sports, but I mostly play basketball. I always watched the Dallas Mavericks or the San Antonio Spurs. I love Mexican, American, Chinese, and Italian food. My family probably wanted me to dance instead of playing sports lol. My family taught me the importance of always being there for each other during the best and worse times.
I’m usually a quite and shy person but when I’m around people I’m comfortable or people I love, I’m a totally different person. I love to spoil my younger cousins and my animals.

I’m growing up in a two parent household with catholic parents in Odessa. I am a 14 year old Mexican American male and I have 3 sisters. My family was mostly influenced by my dad to watch football and since my parents are Mexican, we ate a lot of Mexican food. I also have family traditions which were passed along from my parents and grandparents. All of this might impact interactions with people because not everyone is the same so there might be social disconnect.

Laurelai Gillis · November 9, 2023 at 8:16 am

I grew up living with my mom right next door to my grandma, and visiting my dad every weekend. My family is Christian, but not strict. We also eat many different kinds of food, primarily Mexican and Chinese food. In addition, we don’t practice many traditions, but we do celebrate holidays such as halloween and christmas. My upbringing could influence my life, because I will be able to learn many new practices and traditions seeing as how my family doesn’t have many.

Joseph Davis · November 9, 2023 at 8:16 am

My grandfather rarely or never does too. Mostly everyday for dinner, we’ll eat Mexican food like burritos, rarely asado, tacos, etc. Not often, we’ll travel out of town to visit family for the holidays or celebrations, but not as much every since the Covid-19 pandemic happens.

Jorge Rosales · November 9, 2023 at 8:21 am

I am Mexican I’m 14 years old I have one brother. My family is entirely made up of Catholics. This can affect my interactions because I can develop hostilities because of how I was raised. Another thing that can affect my interactions with people is my experience with them or people who are similar to them. The religion of people can affect their interactions because they will have different believes or values.

I’m Mexican American at the age of 14, I live we live in Odessa with a family of 3, but it used to be 4 until my brother moved out a month ago. We never really did anything except celebrate main holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and Halloween. We usually eat chicken, rice, and a lot of meat inspired foods. We don’t have a tradition, but we just sit together while we eat. These things might impact my interactions with people because not everyone has the same type of culture.

I am a 14-year-old Mexican American. I have 1 younger brother who is 10, and my parents. I was born in Del Rio, Texas, lived in Mexico for about 4 years and are currently living in Odessa. We are a catholic family, but we aren’t that religious. We respect our cultures, traditions and customs a lot. For example, we always try to celebrate Dia de Muertos, Christmas, Dia de la Independencia etc. Growing up, I always ate Mexican food and still do to this day, like tacos, flautas, gorditas, discada, enchiladas verdes and asado.

Angelique Delgado · November 9, 2023 at 8:29 am

I am 14 years old and I am Mexican-American. I grew up with many role models in my lifetime. I was born in El Paso Texas. and was raised by my mom, grandparents, and aunts. I moved to Odessa when I was 6 and have lived with my mom and stepdad since then. I also have a younger sister. Since I was born I have been raised in a catholic household celebrating all holidays. My culture (which is Hispanic) has much food that I love but surprisingly I wouldn’t say I like Mexican food. I prefer Italian food.

Preslie Dobbs · November 9, 2023 at 8:29 am

Being 15 and aroace, my relationships and interactions with people are impacted through me not really understanding romance or dating in the same way other people seem to. While my family are all Christian, I am agnostic. Being agnostic has impacted me through not really understanding what people do at church and why or how some people believe what they do. I don’t really have many traditions other then certain holidays like Christmas and Halloween.

Diego Gonzales · November 9, 2023 at 8:30 am

I am a heterosexual Christian male. I have a mainly Mexican family and ancestry. This contributes to my interactions by how I speak to them and view them. I view them mainly on the base of Christianity.

My mom was a single mother and when I was born, we were still living in my grandparents’ house but moved out when my mom met someone and had my 2 brothers. My grandparents were from El Paso and have a lot of family there, but they decided to move to Odessa and have my aunt, uncle, and mother. I also used to play a lot of sports and watched a lot of horror when I was younger. I still love horror now and love music. I used to play the drums, guitar and viola.

Our family traditions are celebrating holidays together.

Cross Mendoza · November 9, 2023 at 8:38 am

Right now, I’m being raised in a Christian family with my two parents, two sisters, and my two dogs. I am a 14-year-old, American with Mexican heritage; I eat a mix of American and Mexican food, but mainly Mexican food. We have a tradition where every Christmas my family and cousins come together and make tamales, we also use them for Santa. This might impact interactions with people because we have different cultures and beliefs, so we would be introduce to new things.
